From a location perspective, it doesn't get much better than Sunrise Hostel: - 10-15 minute walk to the Tiananmen East subway station - 10 minute walk to Donghuamen Night Market - 15-20 minute walk to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City My private en-suite room (~$25) was very basic with a handful of pros and cons. Pros: - Nice and warm despite the Beijing winter - Spacious - Safe - Helpful front desk with activities and tours Cons: - The sheets, while clean, sported some discoloration…I advoided dwelling on this - The towels were rather musty smelling - The bathroom was smelly, and came with a very small roll of toilet paper and no soap Overall, it was a good base for budget sightseeing, but be prepared for very basic accomodations

So far we've stayed in 3 hostels here in Beijing and Sunrise Hostel has been our favorite. The staff is very friendly and the hostel seems to attract a young, talkative crowd. If you traveling solo or in a small group and you're looking to meet other travelers, this is the place for you. The hostel also has a cool little restaurant/bar which has cheep bear, soda, water and surprisingly good food. It's a cool little place to decompress after a long day of walking around the city. The location is top notch. A 10 min walk to Tianemen Square, Forbidden City, Wufunjing Shopping District, and night market.
