At the Grand Bazaar, you can buy so many things! There are lots of local goods, like knives, traditional Uyghur clothes, and foods (dates, nuts, fruits) but also lots of normal clothes and food that you can buy everywhere else.

The Bazzar is located at the site of Urumqi's large Mosque. All the local grown products are for sample and sale. Displays of regional nuts, fruit, raisins, handmade knives, clothing and hats, musical instruments, brass decorator pieces, and much more. Outside is available local breads, ice cream and snacks, drinks, lunch, and more. Across the street are many more authentic shops. It's fun to walk, brouse, sample foods, and barter with the shop/stand salespeople. Warch those prices!

Unfortunately the Grand Bazaar was very disappointing. There was nothing authentic about this place - to me it felt like a big tourist trap and everything was overpriced. There's a lot of street markets in Urumqi (there's one not far from there) so I would suggest visiting one of those if you want to get a glimpse of Uighur life and culture. You can still give this place a visit when you're in Urumqi, but don't spend too much time here.

The surrounding area is somewhat generic so I was impressed with the architecture of the structures. The footprint it sits on is smaller than I imagined but that is insignificant. Once inside the structure where all the bazaar stands are, there is no shortage of items related to Uyghur culture that can be found.
