Booked this hotel in advance via Expedia as didn't want to spend too much time looking for accomodation while in Guangzhou for just a day. The hotel was the cheapest option available in the river front/ Shamian island area. I wish we hadn't booked it as there's plenty of cheap accommodation available in that area and I'm sure we could have had this room or any other room way cheaper if we hadn't pre-booked. We now paid CNY483. Reception staff did not speak English and it took more than half an hour to get checked in as they were trying to get us to pay in dollars using a terribly disadvantagous exchange rate. We couldn't leave as we had given our credit card number to Expedia already. The room itself was dark (no windows), humid and smelly and it was extremely noisy as there is some club or theatre in the same building, with loud music going on all night. Only plusses were the shower which was surprisingly good and the location.
