It's very small, hard work getting taxi driver to find it even with us showing him the fantastic map we got at the airport, it's marked on there as local museam near big lake. Also closed for lunch about 2 reopens 3.30 ish. But is it is free, and as stated by others. It's a good place to walk back from. We went back towards lake and negotiated the paths across it to the old city and went in the back way having failed to get in the main entrance the day before being told it was dangerous and closed.

Since there actually few things to do in Kashgar, you might stroll over to see this small collection of Silk Road objects. Free entrance.Then continue on toward the Grand Bazaar and come back through the Old City toward the Mosque. It is on Tawuguzi Lu, just past the corner of Renmin Dong Lu. Get the English map at the airport, best local map I have had in China so far.
