The museum introduced me to the Wantian Battery, which was a hill combat and observation post set up by Japanese during colonial rule to attack traditional paths of the Atayal indigenous people. It was well curated and informative. On display are Atayal artifacts and lots of statistics on various battles fought here. There is also a display of wood carving by the local Taiya Tribe. This museum is located in Xuejian Recreation Area in Shei Pa National Park. As well as the museum, the Wantian Battery Relics Trail starts at Erbensong Tourist Station. The path isn't long or difficult but watch out for stinging nettles and it can be quite slippery when it's wet. Nice views at the viewing tower of the Da-an river. Not many other tourists were there during my visit. The length of the trail is approx 600 metres, no permits are required and entrance is free.
