We took a bus from Taipei to the falls. The view is amazing as the roads wind around the hills and through small villages. When at the falls themselves it was a very nice and relaxing. Only problem is many people are there and it can be difficult getting that pic you want. A Lovely walk to the train station also was very nice. The only downer on the whole day was the train back to Taipei. This was literally tighter than fish in a tin can and people just shove in and shove in. This train trip is the only reason I did not give it a 5

What a disappointment! Lovely walk down to the river side and across a suspension bridge to the train tracks. Only to arrive at the boarded up entrance of the waterfalls viewing platform. It's closed for renovations till year end.

Overall I enjoyed the experience. We were told we have to walk 30 mins to waterfalls so we decided to rent a bike from Shifen and cycle to the waterfalls. It only took us less than 10 mins to reach the area. From there we have to park our bicycles at the car park area and walk to the waterfalls. The path is right beside the railway and if you are lucky you can take a photo with the passing Pingxi train without other unwanted people in your photos (Something you can't do in Shifen street due to the huge crowd).The waterfall is nothing much. It is gorgeous but it isn't really big. But it's still nice to enjoy the breeze from the waterfall after such a long trip from Shifen town.

The Shifen waterfall is a waterfall of 20 meters high and 40 meters width surrounded by privately owned land. An entrance fee is charged by the land owner (NT$100). The waterfall is probably the only curtain type waterfall in Taiwan. I suggest to access to the fall via its car park. There you will walk along the railway with better scenery. The top of the fall was artificially modified and hence very flat, which looks bizarre to me, but I did enjoy the walk.

It was just okay.... you need to pay an entrance fee to enter. I guess you can take some seemingly majestic photos but nothing much as the waterfall is pretty small. A long walk from shifen old town so I suggest - RENTING AN ELECTRIC SCOOTER. It was so fun riding it on the road and probably one of our highlights to shifen! Do try it if you haven't ride a scooter/bike before!
