As a frequent traveller to China and Xian it never ceases to amaze me that people complain about staff not speaking Chinese!!! Seriously people, this is a different country. I have tried a number of bars in Xian and must say that the Belgian Bar is the best. You can get a pint of Belgian beer here for 40 kuai, some bars next door tried to charge me 60 kuai for a bottle of China-brewed Carlsberg... seriouslee??? The staff are friendly and the burgers are great and served with hand cut chips. What more can you want?

We, two tired 35 year old school teachers looking for a beer, arrived late from Beijing and Lonely Planet suggested this place. Great selection of beer. Great pub food, that late anything would be good. Music was ok. Great décor, definitely didn't feel like China. The prices were ok 200 for two appetizers and three beers. Mix of people as well.

Surprised by the good selection of beers. They were priced the same as in a pub in Europe and they came in the corresponding glasses and poured correctly at your table. Served a bit cold though. Only downside was the lack of English speaking staff. Food was not bad and bar was in a generally nicer location. Visited twice in evening and both times the place was empty. If you enjoy good beers, I recommend going there.

We, two middleaged women, were literally attacted by a drunk, very rude man, who claimed that we had tried to pay our food with fake money - and it showed to be the owner!! We had got the bills from an ATM in Beijing and had no problems at all paying neither before or after that evening. The bills that the owner refused to accept passed easily through the security machines at another place, the day after... Terrible experience!

After a late arrival, we were looking forward to a few cleansing ales to seal our travel day. The Belgian certainly looks the part, the beer served at the right temperature and in the right glasses, a welcome relief after tolerating room temperature beer. Although we hadn't intended eating there, we got comfortable and decided on 3 dishes from the menu which were shared. Big mistake. The day after we are suffering internally and this is after quite a few weeks on the road, eating a night markets and local establishments. The staff were unprofessional in all aspects of service and had no idea how to operate what is advertised as a Western bar. A bill at the end is the expected standard globally whether you are dealing with an informal street environment or a more structured pub setting. Apparently this too was impossible to deliver. I can forgive inexperienced staff with little mentoring but I draw the line at the serving of food that does not meet safety standards. As we travelled all day, there is no possibility of any thing else messing with our metabolises. We love our beer but will be whetting our whistle elsewhere during our stay in Xi'an
